15 High Traffic, High PageRank Sites For Free One Way Links

Free oneway links are a the best way to build inbound links to your websites without having to put outbound links all over your site. The larger the number of inbound links, the higher your website will rank in search engines. A higher ranking in search engines means more organic traffic.

In this post I am going to provide you with a list of 15 websites with high traffic and high PageRank where you can place the URL of your blog or website for free. The so-called PageRank is Google’s way of assigning a number to your website for ranking purposes. The PageRank number is determined by using a complex algorithm and you really should not worry too much about it – it is not that important. In my opinion, it is more important for a website to have high traffic than a high PageRank. But if you happen to come across a low traffic website that has a PageRank of 7 or up (yes, there are some around!), it is worth getting a link from that website.

one-way-linksThe bad news up front: You have to sign up for all the websites listed here. After signing up, in most cases you have to create a profile and put your one way links using HTML code with anchor texts. You may have to use BB code on some forum sites. And on a few of the sites you have to create a blog post in order to be able to place your one way links.

Read my upcoming blog post on Link Building Basics: Anchor Text and Action Verbs to find out how to use HTML code with anchor texts and BB code.  Some websites will have a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor. If you are using a WYSIWYG editor, you do not have to know HTML code. Just highlight your anchor text and click on the chain link icon from tool bar of the WYSIWYG editor. A new window will open and you can enter your site URL starting with http://. When you are done, the highlighted text becomes anchor text.

Here are the promised high traffic, high PageRank websites (Note: The Alexa ranking and the PageRank tend to change quite a bit over time):

1. Forum.JoomlaWorks.gr:

Alexa rank 8K, PageRank 8. Put your links in the profile page. Use BB code for anchor texts.

12 + 1 Authoritative Sites For Free One Way Links

Many owners of new blogs and/or websites still use link exchange techniques for backlinks to their sites. But when you are engaged in link exchanges with other sites, you do not get one way links to your site. The negative effect of a link leading from your site to someone else´s site nullifies the positive effect of a backlink from another site. Therefore, it is a zero sum game. With the explosion of Web 2.0 and social networking sites, free one way links from these authoritative sites should be the goal of your link building strategy.

Just a couple of days ago I wrote a post called „24 Sites for Web Traffic from High PageRank Backlinks“. The post has become rather popular. Because of that I decided to revisit the topic and add more Web 2.0 sites where you can leave the URL of your blog or website for one way links to your site. I have checked these 15 sites for accuracy and I have used these sites to obtain one way links.

Here they are:

1. YouBundle

A website where you bundle links of websites, videos and pictures on a topic and then share it with others. Create a profile where you can put your own website links. Create bundles and put links related to the bundle topic. Add your website link to the bundle as well.

2. Tumblr

A free blogging platform. Create a blog in your niche and add links to your sites and a few other sites. I found this site very annoying and slow. If you are in a hurry, just create one blog post and put your links there.

3. Work.com

It is an entrepreneur’s owner manual about how to do things and where to go to get things done. You write „how to“ guides and plug your site URL. You can also add your site URL in your profile.

4. PBWorks.com

PBWorks.com is a collaborative project management tool. You sign up for the free version and store some of of your pdf files that have your affiliate and website links. You can also create documents and pages and put your links there.

5. Naymz

A professional networking site similar to LinkedIn. You create your profile and add your website in the link section. You can also add your RSS feed if your website has one. Every blog has an RSS feed. You can add more than one link and RSS feed. So go ahead and add links to all your websites at Naymz.

6. Help.com

Help.com is a networking site where you ask questions and post replies to other peoples’ questions. You can use links with an anchor text in the replies. Be careful not to spam. If your website has answers to a question, point visitors to your website.

7. Blurtit.com

Similar to Help.com. People ask questions and post answers. You can use links with anchor text. But be warned, these question/answer type sites can be very time consuming. You should try to hit one site per week and spend no more than 15 minutes there. It is up to you if you really want to help people by answering their questions. In most cases, the answers can be found by doing some online research.

8. Yedda.com

Another Q/A type site like Help.com or Blurtit.com. Check it out if you are interested in this type of sites. I hardly use Q/A type site because they are really time consuming and I am not interested in posting links to my site unless the site they reside on is really relevant.

9. Unasked.com

Another Q/A type site. They have a directory where you can add your site URL.

10. Gather.com

A Facebook type social networking site. People gather around topics that they love to talk about. Create your profile and add a link to your blog or website. Unfortunately, you cannot use an anchor text in the link.

11. Grazr.com

Grazr.com is not a site that lets you add your website’s URL. But Grazr offers a simple way to create a widget using the RSS feed of a website. Create a widget there using the RSS feed of your site, then post the widget code on other sites that allow you to do that.

12. Lifehack

Lifehack, as the name suggests, is a lifehack site. Lifehacks are hacks, tips, or tricks that is used to get things done by automating the process. It works like a blog site but topics are geared towards lifehacks. You can create a profile and add your links with anchor text.

12+1. Drupal

Drupal is a content management system. Just create an account and add links to your blog or website.

It will only take you a couple of hours to create accounts and place your one way links on the 13 sites I have listed above. If you know more sites like these that let you place free one way links, please post them in the comments.

Good luck!

Post and share your photos, articles, links, music, and videos. Use your site’s link in the profile page.

19. StumbleUpon.com

Discover great web pages and share them with your friends. You can submit your site(s) and individual pages to StumbleUpon.

24. YouTube.com

The most popular video sharing site on the planet. If you do not have a YouTube account, you should sign up immediately. Upload interesting and/or funny videos. Create your profile and link to your site.

Do you know any other high pagerank sites for backlinks? If you do, please post a comment and share your information with others.

How to Generate Traffic Using Yahoo! Answers

What is Yahoo! Answers? Supposedly the World’s biggest think tank, Yahoo! Answers is an question-and-answer (Q&A) site created by Yahoo! in 2005. The site has more than two million regular visitors. Now you can see the potential of this web property in driving targeted traffic to your blog or website for free. Since its inception, it has become very popular tool among internet marketers for driving traffic to their websites. Other entrepreneurial online marketers have cashed in on the popularity of the site by publishing e-books that show you how to use the service to generate website traffic.

You do not need to buy any e-books to use Yahoo! Answers and leverage it for your website traffic and link building. It is free and quite simple to use. And as with any other traffic techniques, you should not focus all your efforts on this one site alone. You can also use the site for getting answers to any questions you may have in more than 20 Yahoo! Answers categories. By sharing your answers to other poeoples´ questions regularly, you can also establish yourself as an expert and build your brand.

yahoo-answers-bus If you already have a Yahoo! account, you can sign in to Yahoo! Answers using your Yahoo! user name and password. I do not know too many people who do not have a Yahoo! account. If you are among th few people who have ignored all of the services offered byYahoo! and therefore have never created a Yahoo! account, sign up now.

1. Start with a top level Yahoo! Answer category that you are passionate about and interested in. If you are interested in gardening and have a gardening blog, you should obviously start with the category „Home & Garden”. Do not limit yourself to the top category alone, select all the subcategories as well.

2. You do not have to be an expert. If you are interested in a topic, you can do a Google search and find the the right answers to almost all the questions posted in Yahoo! Answers. Try to be the first person to answer a question - and answer it correctly.

3. Do not post vague and false answers. It is always better to verify your answers before posting them. Check for spelling and grammatical errors as well before posting your answers, otherwise people will doubt your answer even if it is correct.

4. If you have verified your answers using some authoritative sites like Wikipedia, CNN, MSNBC, Yahoo!, university websites, respected journals, etc., post the link to the source of your answer.

5. The beuty of the Yahoo! Answers service lies in the fact that you can post links in your answers. But do not post links to your websites every time. Link to your content posted on other sites, for instance your articles published in article directories, your Squidoo lenses, hubs on HubPages, blogs, digg, stumbleupon, YouTube videos, etc and direct the user to your content for more information.

6. Try to avoid opinionated political questions, but if you happen to have facts from an authoritative source, post the link without posting your own opinion.

7. Yahoo! Answers is also a virtual gold mine for keyword and market research on any topic. By scanning the questions in a specific category, you will be able to know what information people are looking for. You can make a blog post detailing your research on that question and then link to it in your answer.

8. Keep your answers succint and to the point. Don not simply provide a link to the answer. Provide as much information as possible to resolve the question and include links for more information and validation only.

9. Even if the answer is simple, do not call the asker names or mention how stupid the question is or how obvious the answer is.

10. Yahoo! Answers is a community sharing site. Participate regularly by answering and voting on others answers.

11. Use keywords in your answers.

12. Avoid answering lots of questions in one day. Answer no more than five questions a day and do it for no more than three times a week.

13. Never, ever try to sell anything in your answer.

If you know any more techniques, please leave a comment.

Good luck!

How to Submit Your Blogger Blog to Yahoo

21 Great Ways to Build Links For Free and Get Higher Search Engine Rankings

Getting links to your blog or website from sites outside your domain is the most important part of building backlinks and optimizing for higher search engine rankings. The more backlinks you get, the higher your site will climb in the result pages of the search engines. I have already written a couple of articles on the subject, so a few of the tips may be familiar to regular readers. In this post I am going to I create a list of popular techniques used by today’s online marketers to get backlinks. You can always refer to this list as a guide and implement one technique at a time to rank higher in search engine result pages (SERPS).

First, I want to get one misconception out of the way. Many people equate building backlinks to reciprocal linking. In the case of reciprocal links, you need to provide a link on your site in exchange for a backlink on someone else´s site. Reciprocal linking is two way linking and not a very effective tool for link building. The techniques discussed in this post are all one way link building. You do not have to provide any links to anybody to get backlinks to your blog or website.

clip_image0011. Post Classified Ads

The easiest method. Chose a few sites, but only ones that provide ad renewal. Submit half a dozen ads and renew them regularly. Classified ads expire and if you do not renew them, your ad will be gone along with the links.

2. Join a Webring

It is a very old techniques and I have used it at times in the past. A webring is a collection of websites in a particular niche linked together in circular fashion. Vistiors can jump to a website clicking on a link in a website that is the part of the webring family. Check out a popular webring site called webring.com.

3. Get Listed in Web Directories

Web directories were popular for searches prior to Google. But they still help get links to your site. When you submit to a web directory, make sure that your site is submitted to the relevant category. Here you can find a list of free web directories.

4. Create an eBook and List It in eBook Directories

Create an ebook and insert your website link in it. Creating an ebook is not difficult. There are many ways to do it on a weekend. Just google “how to create an ebook for free” and you will find some helpful guides. Once you create an ebook, you can list in eBook directories. Here is a list of ebook directories where you can list your ebook for free.

5. Create a Forum and Get Listed in Forum Directories

There are lots of free software silutions available to create a forum in your site. A forum is great for interacting with your site´s visitors. If you are using a web hosting with cPanel, you can install a forum in one click using Fantastico. Once you have a forum, get it listed in forum directories. Big-boards.com is currently the largest forum directory. For a list of forum directories, check out this website.

6. Use Yahoo Answers

Posting thoughtful answers on Yahoo Answers and including a link to your website is still one of the best way to get a backlink from a very authoritative source. Check out my article “How to Generate Traffic Using Yahoo! Answers – A 13 Steps Guide” for driving traffic using Yahoo! Answers.

7. Create a Blog and Get It Listed In Blog Directories

I have emphasized the importance of creating a blog many times. You can create a blog for free using Blogger. Once you have a blog, get it listed in blog directories. Here is a list of blog directories.

8. Get Links from .edu and .gov Blogs

Search engines consider .edu and .gov domains as authoritative. Find blogs in these domains that are related to the topic of your blog or website and leave thoughtful comments with backlinks. To find .edu and .gov domains in your niche, do a Google search using the syntax: site:.gov inurl:blog “your niche keyword”. Check out my article on how to get inbound links from government and university sites. If you happen to have a relative in a government job and/or at an university, ask them to create a blog and put a backlink to your websites.

9. Post Reviews

Amazon and Barnes and Nobles will let you post your links on the reviews. If you have purchased a book recently, create a review and post a link back to your site. But you have to be clever to make it relevant.

10. Write and Submit Articles

I ´ll write a guide on article marketing in the near future. It is one of the most popular online marketing techniques. You cannot go wrong with this method. It has helped quite a few people a lot in making their sites popular.

11. Write Testimonials with Your Link

Have you recently bought a digital product and found it useful? Write a testimonial, put your links in it and send it to the product creator to be included in his testimonials page.

12. Comment on YouTube Videos

When you watch a video on YouTube, do not leave the site without posting a comment with your link. You have already spent an x amount of time watching the video, spend another two minutes to build links to your web site.

13. Review on Script Directories

There are lots of free script directories and if you use them to download scripts for your websites, why not spend an additional few minutes to write a review with a link to your web site? Hotscripts.com is a popular script directory where you can write reviews on scripts.

14. Post on Document Sharing Sites

Create a small report or power point presentation with links to your site  and upload it onto document sharing sites. You can also post comments with links on some sites. Here is a list of document sharing sites.

15. Get Listed in Free Stuff Directories

The same concept applies here. Offer something for free and get listed in free stuff directories. The best thing to give for free is a digital product like a report or an ebook. Here is a list of free stuff sites.

16. Submit Press Releases

I have discussed this topic in the past. You can submit a press release whenever there is a major event in your business. As you know, a major event is in the eye of the beholder. A major even can be adding a new feature to your site, an increase in web traffic to your site or an increase in revenue.

17. Post on Forums

This is also a very popular method to drive traffic and build backlinks. For a detailed discussions on this topic, look for my upcoming article on forum marketing.

18. Get Backlinks from Authoritative Sites

Getting backlinks from authoritative web 2.0 sites like social news and bookmarking sites, or article publishing sites is very hot now.

19. Upload Videos and Leave Comments on Video Sharing Sites

Just like YouTube, on of the most popular sites on the net, there are other video sharing sites where you can upload your videos and leave comments on other people´s videos with backlinks to your sites. For a list of video sharing sites, click here.

20. Create a Link Triangle

Using Squidoo, HubPages and your blog or website, you can create a link triangle, for example link from HubPages to Squidoo lenses to your website.

21. Create a Top Site List

At one time top sites were very popular but they are less visible now. It is a list of sites that exchange links to each other and the site sending the most traffic ranks on the top of the list. To implement this, you need a top site script and there are plenty of them available for free. Just do a Google search. The most important thing in implementing Top Site Lists is making the sites relevant. Create a Top Site List in your own niche and only accept sites that are relevant to your topic.

There are many other ways to build one way links to your site. You need to be on alert and whenever you see an opportunity, drop your link. Do not think too much about dofollow, nofollow or all the other stuff that you have read in internet marketing forums. For me, a link is a link. Once your links are about, they will spread to other sites and some of them will be dofollow. If you are going to concentrate on dofollow links only, check out this dofollow blog.

Good luck!

10 Proven Methods to Get More Traffic to Your Blog

The old saying goes that Content is King – but even if you are a great author and have amazing things to say, it still takes work to get people to read your blog posts.

How do you differentiate yourself amongst millions and millions of voices who are all striving to get the same attention and readership that you are? How do you reach out to an audience that is already drowning in noise?

Unfortunately, good content alone will not do the trick – there has to be something more then just hoping that people will read your blog posts.

With that in mind, here are 10 proven ways to get more readers, more attention and more traffic your blog:

ebloggertricks-get-more-blog-readers

1. Pick a Catchy Title

Picking a great title is one of the most basic ways to attract more readers to your blog. Even though it is only a few words, the title can entice viewers to continue reading and ultimately subscribe! Remember, pick a title that is catchy. This is extremely important for drawing traffic from sites like Digg.com or del.icio.us.

2. Improve Your SEO

Improving the search engine friendliness of your blog is vital for attracting more readers. In order to do this, you should change the permalink structure of your blog and even tailor its title to Google’s preferences. With just a few simple steps, search engines can vastly increase the number of people who visit your blog.

3. Marketing

Word of mouth is one of the most basic but useful ways to increase the number of readers for your blog. Have a Facebook? Create a fan page encouraging your friends and acquaintances to read your blog. They might just pass it on to more people if they find something they like. Have a Twitter? Post your blog’s link. Any type of advertisement will be helpful!

4. Write Original Content

When you write content that has already been blogged about, the chances are readers will not come back for more because they have already come across something similar. The solution – put a new spin on whatever subject you are writing about! Most quality blogs have subject matter that is new and inspiring. Readers will always keep checking your blog if this is skillfully done.

5. Comment on Other Blogs

Giving feedback on other people’s blogs is an extremely easy way to get the attention of other bloggers and their audience. It is of utmost importance, however, that you do not look like you are spamming. Make sure you read the article, and then simply advertise your own blog in a discrete way.

6. Guest Blog

Guest blogging on a similarily themed blog is one of the most effective ways to get more traffic to your site. Some bloggers have greatly increased their own number of readers by simply writing one entry for a very popular site. Even though it is hard to get your guest entry posted, it is certainly not impossible. If you succeed, your traffic will surely increase greatly.

7. Run a Contest

Running a contest is a great way to generate buzz in the online community. With a type of sweepstakes, readers will regularly check your blog for an update on the winner while also telling their friends about their hopes of winning. Find something that is related to your blog and that readers would enjoy winning. After your contest is over, publicize the winner. Many participants will continue to read your blog even after the contest is over!

8. Link to Other Blogs

No need to worry, you will not lose traffic! Bloggers who link to other blogs usually see their efforts reciprocated. This friendly relationship allows writers to share a common audience. By networking with other writers, your blog’s traffic will inevitably increase.

9. Be Controversial – It Is Okay!

There are millions of bloggers all over the world. Not too many bloggers, however, will write about a controversial subject. Do not be offensive, but distance yourself from those other ordinary blogs. The online community will definitely take notice if you continue to push the envelope.

10. Just Wait and See!

While all of these tips can help you attract more readers to your blog, it still takes time! Do not become frustrated! The longer your blog is thriving, the sooner you will see a heavy increase in traffic. Do not be upset if you only have a few readers at first! In time you will have a popular site that everyone is visiting!

At the end of the day, you need to put in the effort, but if you do, you will certainly be able to reap fruit from your efforts in promoting your blog and getting more readers.

Good luck!

There are a number of options for the Like Button, like including the names and profile pictures of the user's friends who have liked the page, changing the colors, the button types and the size and transforming it into a Recommend Button.

The following guide will walk you through the necessary steps to install the Facebook Like/Recommend Button to your Blogger blog:

1. Login to your Blogger account and go to Design --> Edit HTML and click on the check box where it says Expand Widget Templates.

2. Look for <data:post.body/> (Ctrl + F). If you want the Like Button to appear below your posts insert the following code directly after the above line:

<b:if cond='data:blog.pageType == &quot;item&quot;'>
<iframe allowTransparency='true' expr:src='&quot;http://www.facebook.com/plugins/like.php?href=&quot; + data:post.url + &quot;&amp;layout=standard&amp;show_faces=false&amp;width=100&amp;action=like&amp;font=arial&amp;colorscheme=light&quot;' frameborder='0' scrolling='no' style='border:none; overflow:hidden; width:450px; height:40px;'/>
</b:if>

If you want the button to appear at the top of your blog posts insert the code before <data:post.body/> or after <div class='post-header-line-1'/>.

This code will show the Like Button on Post pages only. If you want to display it everywhere, then remove the two lines of code in red.

3. If you want, you can now make some changes to the Like Button. Here are a few of the adjustments you can make:

layout = standard / button_count   [choose layout]

show_faces = true / false              [show picture]

action = like / recommend             [option : Like or Recommended button]

colorscheme = light / dark             [color]

height: 60px                                 [adjust height]

widht: 60px                                  [adjust width]

4. Save the template and you should see the Like Button above or below each of your posts, depending on your choice.

5. That is all!

Good luck!

12 Important Things to Check Before Buying Backlinks

In an ideal world, there would be no need for search engine optimization (SEO). You produce content just like everyone else and the best one gets the top spot in the search engine results pages (SERPs). Unfortunately, things are not that simple. And with billions upon billions of web pages all around the globe, competition gets tougher every day. Buying backlinks (a major component in most every serious SEO campaign) is a very effective way to get higher SERPs. It is also one of the easiest Offsite SEO techniques you could implement with a small budget.

Things to Check Before Shopping for Backlinks

Just buying any old backlinks will not do. You need to have quality backlinks that will give you the maximum return on your (hopefully small) investment. Here is a checklist you should use before buying backlinks:

shopping-for-backlinks1. Decide on your budget first

It may look easy and attractive at first, but if you are not careful buying backlinks could cost you an arm and a leg. Therefore, it is crucial to set aside a budget for buying the links before you get started. And it is very important to stay within the budget.

2. Look for quality and not quantity

PageRank is a logarithmic algorithm. This means that getting from one PR stage to another is exponentially difficult. So try to acquire backlinks from sites with the best PR possible within your budget.

3. Do your math

You probably have your own preferences and hence should do a little math before going about buying backlinks. Lets say you can get a quality PR6 backlink for $100, but your requirement makes you settle for 4 PR4 links for the same price.

4. Shop for deep links / Avoid site wide links (aka surface links)

Site wide links are a strict no-no from the SEO perspective. They are only good if you are interested in advertising products or services. The reason is pretty simple: Search engines look for your link on every page of the site and try to give relevance to it, but it is very difficult for search engine spiders to find relevant connections between the home page of your website and the linked site on every occasion. Therefore, go for deep links when it comes to SEO. (Deep linking means that the link in question points to a specific page or image on a site, not just to the home page.)

5. Look for sites that have limited slots available for backlinks

Its is better to pay a premium price for getting a backlink from a site that has limited slots open than getting a cheap link from a site where 100s of links are displayed. Remember: Importance gets distributed in a weighted fashion across all links.

6. Avoid buying from community forums

You might find sellers promising you hundreds or even thousands of backlinks for just $5 – $10. “Avoid deals like these at all costs. They cause more harm than good”.

7. Buy backlinks to individual posts rather than your home page

It is more relevant for you to acquire backlinks to your best posts rather than your site’s homepage. Always remember, backlinking is pretty much the opposite of advertisement. It is the search engines you are trying to please. Therefore it is much better if the backlink points to one of your best posts because you stand a greater chance of having relevant keywords within this post than on the homepage which in all likelihood will show a mix of things.

8. Throw <alt:> tags into the deal

Find out what keywords you want to target and then use them as <alt:> text in the deal. Thus the search engine spiders will get a better understanding of what your site is about.Your page will get more relevance for these specific keywords.

9. Keep a landing page ready for your backlinks beforehand

Write a detailed post with a good amount of keywords (which should be the same or at least belong in the same niche as your alt tags) and keep it as a landing page for your backlinks.

10. Buy links only from sites within your niche

If you have a blogging tips website, then how much will a backlink from a medical site help you? Not much, right? So isn´t it obvious that the search engine crawlers apply the same rule? Therefore, avoid sites outside your niche as much as possible.

11. Acquire backlinks for a longer period of time

It takes time for the search engines to update their databases. Having a large number of backlinks will not make your site more popular overnight. Give it some time. Roughly four months is a fair estimate. The rest depends on your budget. But definitely avoid anything less than two months.

12. The following points are pretty straight forward

  • Avoid dropped / expired domains
  • Avoid black-listed sites
  • Avoid link farms (sites that are only built to sell links)
  • Avoid footer links

Finally, use common sense before spending your hard earned money. While buying backlinks may look easy and attractive there are a few things you need to look out in order to avoid going broke. But if you are judicious and remember the above tips your blog or website should rank considerably higher within a couple of month. If you would like to share your experiences, please leave a comment.

Good luck!

5 Google Search Tricks to Help Your SEO

In this relatively short post I am going to tell you how you can use Google Search for search engine optimization (SEO). Google is still a major force in all online research (and will be for years to come), for both work and play. Knowing some of the special tricks on how to use Google can help you in your SEO research in a number of ways.

Try any and all of the following 5 Google search tricks to help your SEO:

5 Google Search Tricks

1. “intitle:”/”allintitle:”

Start your query with this tag and follow with your keywords to see who is making good use of SEO by targeting these keywords in their title tag. Using only “intitle” will show pages with title tags containing any of the keywords you search for, and “allintitle” will only show pages with title tags containing all of the keywords. Doing your search with this tool will help you determine who is tightly targeting your keywords by using them in the title tag.

2. “inanchor:”/”allinanchor:”

When trying to find what and how many backlinks any particular page has, there are several options. Google itself will not display every backlink, but using this tag can help you determine who is using the searched keyword in their anchor text for backlinks. This can be used to find both your own site’s anchor text use and how your competition is doing with anchor text.

3. “intext:”/”allintext:”

If you are trying to determine which pages are using your searched keywords most effectively within their content, this is the tag to use. Results here will display which pages are using the target keywords most in their visible content.

4. “link:”

This is another tag you can use when doing backlink research. When you use this tag with a domain or a full page URL you can see what pages Google has listed that are linking to this page. Again, Google will not list all backlinks, but this will give you a quick rundown of backlinks to specific pages.

5. “site:”

This tag is often missed for its true value. When you use this tag and follow it with a domain name, it will display all of the pages that Google’s search bots have crawled. If, in addition to this, you add keywords it will display only pages inside that domain that match the keyword query. This is an easy way to determine if Google has cached a specific page, or for finding out relevant information within a particular domain. You can even do a partial search with this tag to find out all sites of a certain class that match your query. For example, typing “site:.edu” will list only the relevant results that have domains with the “.edu” extension.

Using any (or all) of these tags can help you in your SEO research quite nicely and quickly. They are valuable tools to research competition or even measure your own levels of progress.

Good luck!

7 Highly Effective Ways to Promote Your Blog Posts

Unless you are very rich, a celebrity or have a lot of influential friends, gone are the days where you could simply write a post and expect it to pull it’s weight in terms of attracting visitors to your blog or website.

Are You Relying Solely on Luck?

Sure, you might get lucky every now and then when somebody with some influence stumbles across one of your best articles and decides to share it, but are you really going to hope for that elusive „luck” to find you? Not if you seriously want your blog to start performing anytime soon. The bottom line is, you NEED to promote every single one of your best posts — not just your blog’s homepage.

to-do-eblogger-tricks But now for the good news: there is a simple, step-by-step „strategy” you can follow with each of your pillar (aka „evergreen” or „cornerstone”) articles that will help transform each one of them into „workers” that will serve to improve your blog or website in a number of ways (for example: better search engine rankings, high quality traffic, more comments,…).

1. Ping Your Blog Post

A „ping” is just a way of letting specific search engines and other websites know that you have updated your blog. This does not cause a noticeable difference right off the bat, but it will attract search engine spiders to your blog/website and will help get your new blog post indexed more quickly. And it only takes about 30 seconds - so it is well worth the effort. Two of the most popular pinging services are Ping-o-Matic! and Pingoat (both free and easy to use).

2. Twitter, Facebook, or Both

If you are active on some of the popular social media platforms such as Twitter or Facebook, be sure to announce your posts, and do it several times a day. For example, on Twitter, your followers may be active at different times of the day and a large majority might miss your updates, so it will help your posts enormously if you announce them at different times throughout the day. For a free service that allows you to schedule tweets to be posted at a later date or time, visit SocialOomph.

3. IMAutomator

Social bookmarks do not have a huge impact on their own, and frankly, are quite a pain to submit. Thankfully, there is a free service called IMAutomator that will allow you to fill out ONE form, submit it ONCE, and have your post sent to no less than15 different social bookmarking websites over the course of a month (drip-feed submissions look more natural to the search engines, and therefore help your posts even more). It takes about one minute to usean dit is free, so there is no excuse NOT to use it for every one of the pillar articles you publish to your blog. Visit the IMAutomator website to sign up for a free account.

4. Even More Social Bookmarks

The service mentioned above will only submit to 15 social bookmarking websites, so it helps if you manually submit your post to another 8-12 social bookmarking websites to give it that extra push. Once again, social bookmarks do not do a whole lot on their own, but they do provide your post with some initial backlinks and an opportunity to get voted up and ranked highly (which could theoretically result in a virtual avalanche of traffic - if you are lucky).

Also, think of how many people publish posts to their blog and DO NOT submit them to a handful of social bookmarking sites. By taking ten minutes of your time (or less), you are putting YOUR post way ahead of the competition. To make the task of submitting your new blog post to 8-12 more social bookmarking websites easier, visit Shareaholic (also free).

5. Online Niche Communities

Do a search on the internet to see if there are popular communities that are specific to your niche. Usually these websites allow you to submit a new link, much like a social bookmarking website, but more targeted to your niche. For instance, if you are in the blogging, internet marketing, or make money online niche, some communities you should consider submitting your posts to are: MMOSocialNetwork.com and Blogengage.com. Tip: Make friends and build professional relationships in these communities and you will get even more traffic from your submissions.

6. Blog Carnival Submission

A blog carnival is a scheduled blog post that groups links to other blog posts about a specific topic. Those who are running blog carnivals submit their website to Blogcarnival.com to be listed. Likewise, you can go to that same website and find upcoming relevant blog carnivals to submit your posts to.

It can be a rather time-consuming process, but if you go through with it and submit every one of your pillar articles to relevant blog carnivals, it can result in not only a handful of good backlinks to your posts, but often a spike in traffic on the day the blog carnival goes live. Imagine if you submitted and got each one of your best articles approved at ten different blog carnivals?

7. Blog Comments

You should already have a list of established blogs in your niche that you post comments to regularly, and if you do not, you should definitely start right away. Immediately after you publish your new pillar article and go through steps 1-6, you should go through your list of „blogs to comment on” and post a comment on each one (especially on the more recent posts). But do not SPAM!

What this will do is drive some traffic from your comment to your blog where your brand new post is sitting at the top position on your homepage. This helps to increase your new post’s comment count, and can result in some new readers and subscribers as well.

Conclusion

The above process, though somewhat of a drag and somewhat time-consuming, should be the bare minimum effort you put into promoting all of your best posts.

You put a tremendous effort in writing amazing articles to publish to your blog - so wouldn´t it be a shame if your effort was wasted and those articles get pushed further and further down your archives without ever seeing the light of day? Go the extra mile and promote all of your blog posts using the simple, but effective 7-step strategy I described above and the blood, sweat, and tears you put into writing your pillar articles will be well worth it.

HTML and XML Sitemaps Play an Important Role in SEO

Creating an HTML sitemap and a XML sitemap for your website is one of the easiest things you can do to improve your exposure on the web. For those among you who pay close attention to the search engine optimization (SEO) of your site, this could be the one thing that gets you onto the first page of Google´s search results. For those who do not devote a lot of time on the SEO of their site - this is probably the best place to start. By submittíng a sitemap of your blog or website to various search engines, you are telling them that you exist and what pages your site has to offer the World Wide Web.

As you may know, there are two types of sitemaps: HTML and XML. An HTML sitemap provides a useful directory of all the pages that are in your site. XML sitemaps on the other hand play an important role in helping the search engines “crawl” the various pages of your site. This introductory article discusses the benefit of creating both an HTML sitemap and XML sitemap, and how you can go about creating them using a sitemap generator.

HTML Sitemaps

An HTML sitemap is a single HTML page that contains links to all the pages of your website. Normally, this is accessible via a link in your site footer, where it will be displayed on every page. With large sites, it is easy to get lost and struggle to find the page you are looking for. With a well organized HTML sitemap, visitors to your site will be able to use it to easily find the page they are looking for.

From an SEO perspective, as the search engine's robot (or spider) crawls your site indexing pages, it may find some pages on your site with greater ease using this sitemap, rather than through the general navigation. Therefore, sitemaps can benefit your site visitors and even play a role in enhancing your exposure on the web.

Take a look at WebAssist's sitemap to get an idea of what an HTML sitemap looks like. Notice that each page on the WebAssist website contains a link to this page in the footer.

XML Sitemaps

HTML sitemaps are designed to benefit your human site visitors, whereas XML sitemaps are created specifically for the search engines. All of the most popular search engines including Google, Yahoo, Bing and Ask.com utilize XML sitemaps as part of their process for indexing the pages of a website. A good XML sitemap will tell the search engine what pages are in your site, how often those pages are updated, and when they were last modified. This way, the search engines know which pages to revisit more regularly, and are likely to do a better job of indexing them. Here is an example of the XML you might include in your XML sitemap:

<url>

<loc>yoursitedomain/index.htm</loc>

<lastmod>2009-03-05</lastmod>

<changefreq>weekly</changefreq>

<priority>1.0</priority>

</url>

Notice that for the index.htm page of this website, I have provided details regarding the last modified date (<lastmod>), the frequency of updartes to this page (<changefreq>), and the priority of this page in relation to the other pages of the site (<priority>). By providing this information to the search engine as accurately as possible, they will be better equipped to index your site, and give the most important pages the appropriate attention.

TIP: Be honest about the information you provide in your sitemap(s). If a search engine finds that you are not updating your site as often as your sitemap suggests, they may come back less often.

Creating HTML and XML Sitemaps

Creating HTML sitemaps is as easy as creating a basic HTML page that contains links to all the pages in your site. However, you need to keep in mind that whenever you create new pages in your site, you will want to add those links to the sitemap as well.

Creating XML sitemaps manually can be quite a time consuming process. However, there are many great sitemap generators out there to help you automate this. If you google "sitemap generator" you will find that there are a quite a few free as well as paid sitemap tools that you can use.

How Often Should I Submit My Sitemap?

You should be in the habit of submittíng a sitemap to search engines a number of times a year. This allows you to update the search engine on any new pages in your site. If you create new pages on a regular basis, you may want to submit your sitemap more frequently.

Conclusion

Both HTML sitemaps and XML sitemaps are a good step in the right direction to improve the exposure of your website. You will most likely find a rise inyour search engine rankings after submitting a sitemap for the first time. However, keep in mind that this is only one part of search engine optimization, and there is a lot more you can do to improve how search engines rank the pages on your site and your website's discoverability.

Good luck!

Important Search Engine Optimization Tips (SEO for Beginners)

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) remains the buzz word in the internet marketing world despite the increasing use of other internet marketing methods. Is your website effectively optimized for search engines? How much website traffic do you get? Here are a few pointers to help you increase your search engine traffic.

Search Engine Optimization Begins with Keywords

There are quite a number of aspects to search engine optimization but one of the most important is keyword research and use. Before you even register your domain name you should do some basic keyword research to determine what keywords you are going to use and then include these in your domain name, file names as well as throughout your content and in important places on each and every page.

Where to Include Your Keywords

So where should you include your chosen keywords on your web pages? As I have mentioned above, they should be in your domain and file names but they should also be in your Meta tags, the title of your page, in bold somewhere near the top of your page, in alt tags for graphics, in anchor text for links and throughout the content of your blog or website.

Meta Tags are Still Important

A couple of years ago quite a few people felt that Meta tags may go out of fashion because the content itself began to play an an ever more important part in search engine optimization, but this has not been the case – Meta tags are still important. At the very least you should have a title tag, keywords tag and description tag. Beyond this you may include others such as robots, etc.

Link Building for Search Engine Optimization

Many link building tools offer benefits in their own right but they are also very important for search engine optimization. A good example is social media marketing that has become a very popular tool for marketing - but the links you have on your social media sites to your blog or website can also help with your search engine optimization, get you multiple listings on the search engines, etc.

The more links you can get to your blog or website using social media marketing, article marketing, banner advertising, etc. the better. Use as many marketing tools as you can to get as many links as possible.

Technical Optimization

In addition to keywords and link building for search engine optimization there is also the aspect of technical optimization which means ensuring that your website is properly designed. Ensuring that your website follows good standards for the code it is written in is an important part of search engine optimization.

Technical optimization means that your website should be as easy as possible for the search engine robots (spiders) to read. If you had to use a text-only browser to view your blog or website you should still be able to see your site properly and the content should still be readable. Websites that have written content in Flash, graphics, etc. or just contain images are lacking in the department of technical optimization and will generally not rank well on the search engines.

You should also ensure that there are no so-called ‘dead’ links on your website where a site or page used to exist but no longer does, as this can harm your search engine rankings. Also, make sure that the code on your website is well designed including end tags in HTML, etc. You can use a code validator from W3.org to ensure that your website is correctly coded.

Sitemaps and Submissions

Once you have created your website choosing and using the right keywords and have ensured that it is technically optimized, another way you can help to improve your search engine rankings is by using sitemaps and submitting these to Google, Yahoo, Bing and other search engines that allow for this. This helps to get your blog/website indexed faster and more correctly and can keep them up to date with what is happening on your website.

Search engine optimization can greatly enhance the amount of website traffic you receive if done correctly. Proper search engine optimization includes keyword optimization, technical optimization, Meta tags and link building. Submitting sitemaps to the search engines can also help to improve your results and get you indexed.

Good luck!
